Generate cited background briefings from media reports with Gemini Deep Research

The GDELT Project gave Gemini Deep Research nothing but the PDF of its daily trends report on a foreign TV channel (Iran, Russia, Congo) and asked for a sourced backgrounder for American journalists and scholars unfamiliar with the country. It then expanded to cross-reference the day's 65 reports into tailored analyses by topic.

How it works

  1. Attach the daily report (PDF) to Gemini Deep Research.

  2. Define the target reader: a journalist or scholar who doesn't know the country.

  3. Ask the agent to identify events, leaders and narratives that need context and research them on the open web.

  4. Get the report with citations and check the most important sources.

  5. Optional: combine all of the day's reports and ask for analyses by topic (economy, health, information warfare).
