Let ChatGPT negotiate your internet bill in the carrier's chat

AJ Stuyvenberg, an engineer at Datadog, got a $50/month fiber offer from Comcast and asked ChatGPT's agent to negotiate with Verizon over live chat. The agent pulled promotions from Verizon's own website and the competitor's offer as leverage, was transferred to a supervisor (another AI agent) and closed a retention discount.

How it works

  1. Gather your current bill amount and a concrete offer from a competitor.

  2. Open the carrier's support/retention chat and give the agent access to a browser that's already logged in.

  3. Tell the agent to use the carrier's public promotions and the competitor's offer as leverage.

  4. Follow the conversation and approve any plan change yourself before confirming.

  5. Check your next bill to make sure the discount and credit were applied.

prompt.txt
Go into Verizon's support chat on my account and negotiate a lower price for my internet, which currently costs $94.99/month. Comcast offered me faster fiber for $50/month. Use the promotions Verizon advertises on its own site and that offer as leverage, ask for retention if needed, and don't accept any plan change or contract without asking me first.

Reported result

After about an hour of chat, the bill dropped from $94.99 to $69.99/month for 12 months, plus a $47.50 loyalty credit: about $347.50 saved in a year, according to the user himself in Business Insider.
