Ask a Grok Bot to review your tax return before filing

Jeremy Judkins asked Grok Bot to audit the US federal income tax return he had prepared in TurboTax. The bot pointed out errors, and his before-and-after screenshots show the tax owed going down. Weeks later, the bot even flagged on its own an error it had missed and walked him through fixing the forms by hand.

How it works

  1. Export or photograph the completed return and the supporting documents.

  2. Ask the bot for a line-by-line audit listing deductions and credits that may have been missed.

  3. Check each suggestion against your paperwork before changing any number.

  4. Make the corrections yourself in the tax software.

  5. Keep the bot's summary to show your accountant, if you have one.

Prompt

Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.

prompt.txt
Review this year's tax return, which is in the attached files. Go through it line by line, look for deductions and credits that may have been missed and filing errors, and explain each problem with its estimated value. Don't change or submit anything: show me the list of corrections and where to make each one in the software.

Reported result

Federal tax owed dropped from $8,581 to $6,481 in the before-and-after screenshots, a $2,100 saving. In an Oct 13 post, he reports another adjustment of about $2,500 after the bot found an error on its own.
